Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is widely argued that old buildings such as town halls and art galleries should be restored even this approach can be costlier, while others argue that those should be replaced with the new and modern buildings. This essay will discuss both the views followed by my opinion.
On the one hand, historical monuments represents history and culture. Many art museums display antique products which are essential for educating young generation about the life that their ancestor's lived. To illustrate, the museum at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar has displayed the clothing trends of Punjab and described that how it changed over time. Thus, it educates the young generation about the importance and history of dressing over the years. As a result, it helps to maintain the historical beliefs and values. Moreover, maintaining the ancient architectural designs is expensive because the cost of labor and historical raw materials is very huge as compared to modern architecture. As the old building are all hand-crafted but in today's contemporary world, all the construction is done using different technological devices.
On the other hand, law enforcement officials should build modern building such as educational institutes, hospital and recreational centers. This will increase employment opportunities for the young individuals as setting up new businesses often requires new employees. For instance, opening a new school will create job positions for professors, administrative officers and cleaners. Additionally, it will reduce the pressure on existing facilities such as hospitals. Waiting time for patients at one hospital will be reduced as there will be more medical institutions open and there will be even distribution of patients at different locations.
In my opinion, maintaining the historical buildings and values plays a crucial role in today's society but constructing new and modern buildings will make everyone's life more convenient. All the services will be readily available reducing the delays.
In conclusion, though ancestorial values associated with old buildings are beneficial but the cost of maintaining the art products is deliberately high. Thus, building new and modern amenities is less costly and creates employment opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historical sites versus the practical benefits of modern infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the arguments for modern buildings are supported by clear examples like job creation and reduced hospital waiting times, the discussion on restoration is slightly repetitive regarding costs. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and could have better synthesised the main points to reinforce the position. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'those should be replaced' in the introduction, which lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, contributing to the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'historical monuments', 'architectural designs', and 'recreational centers'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ancestorial values' (should be 'ancestral') and 'deliberately high' (which does not fit the context of cost). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('monuments represents', 'building are') and awkward phrasing ('described that how it changed'). Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly clunky. While the errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions to achieve greater accuracy in complex sentences.
