Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely argued that old buildings such as town halls and art galleries should be restored even though this approach can be costlier, while others argue that those should be replaced with the new and modern buildings. This essay will discuss both the views followed by my opinion.
On the one hand, historical monuments represent history and culture. Many art museums display antique products which are essential for educating the young generation about the life that their ancestors lived. To illustrate, the museum at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar has displayed the clothing trends of Punjab and described that how it changed over time. Thus, it educates the young generation about the importance and history of dressing over the years. As a result, it helps to maintain the historical beliefs and values. Moreover, maintaining the ancient architectural designs is expensive because the cost of labor and historical raw materials is substantially high as compared to modern architecture. As the old buildings are all hand-crafted but in today's contemporary world, all the construction is done using different technological devices.
On the other hand, law enforcement officials should build modern buildings such as educational institutes, hospitals and recreational centers. This will increase employment opportunities for the young individuals as setting up new businesses often requires new employees. For instance, opening a new school will create job positions for professors, administrative officers and cleaners. Additionally, it will reduce the pressure on existing facilities such as hospitals. Waiting time for patients at one hospital will be reduced as there will be more medical institutions open and there will be even distribution of patients at different locations.
In my opinion, maintaining the historical buildings and values plays a crucial role in today's society but constructing new and modern buildings will make everyone's life more convenient. All the services will be readily available reducing the delays.
In conclusion, though ancestorial values associated with old buildings are beneficial but the cost of maintaining the art products is high. Thus, building new and modern amenities is less costly and creates employment opportunities

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural importance of historical buildings and the economic benefits of modern infrastructure. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. While the example of the Jallianwala Bagh museum is specific, the discussion on modern buildings relies on generalisations about employment. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and could have better synthesised the arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that the personal opinion is more explicitly integrated into the body paragraphs rather than just stated in the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow between sentences feels slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of historical beliefs and the cost of labor in the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. You have used some topic-specific terms like 'historical monuments', 'contemporary world', and 'infrastructure'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'ancestorial values' (should be 'ancestral') and 'antique products' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context; 'artifacts' would be better). The range is sufficient for the task, but to achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'Many art museums display antique products which are essential for educating the young generation'. However, there are persistent minor errors, such as 'those should be replaced with the new and modern buildings' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here) and 'described that how it changed' (incorrect clause structure). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve accuracy.
