Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays people obsereved that old buildings should be newly constuct by the government while others think repleaced them with modren buildings. in this essay i will discuss both views and explain why i believe old buildings play significant role in modren society .

My primary reason is in favour of old museums is that it demonstrates our history and culture. to explain it more , by the help of these unique things the knowledge about our ancestors ,culture, rituals and society we learned it easily . for example , in punjab , the government of punjab restored number of old buildings like museum, art galleriers for the public to know for about the sikh culture how they fought in front of large army with few casaulties . As a result, the current generation roots connected with their past and it insiperd young youth .

on the other hand , many believe government should make new buildings instead of old restoration . firstly, as population increased day by day because of that concern they think that the authorities have to make rental properties or as well as business structure for the people for modern world. secondly , many old buildings restored old standards like less accessibility , less heating and cooling . due to that fact people believe if government replaced them with new modern planning it would be more beneficial for society.

in my opinion, although , the old modal building has less facilities or not well maintained but by restoring them it help new generation to connect with their roots .

in conclusion, while old building has less top notch system as compared to this era but why keeping it in this world make them proud to see what we achieved today .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the example regarding Punjab is relevant, the explanation of the opposing view regarding modern infrastructure is a bit superficial. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and ensure that your position is consistently maintained and clearly articulated throughout the entire essay, rather than just in the introduction and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'on the other hand' and 'firstly/secondly', to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the ideas is unclear. Referencing is occasionally imprecise, which affects the overall coherence. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate to convey your meaning, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'obsereved', 'constuct', 'repleaced', 'modren', 'insiperd') and some awkward collocations (e.g., 'newly constuct', 'old modal building'). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to incorporate more sophisticated or academic terms. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your repertoire of topic-specific vocabulary related to architecture, urban planning, and cultural heritage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'we learned it easily'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'old building has less top notch system'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and pluralization.
