Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern edge competitive word people are adapting the new things rather than valuing the old such as, cultures, traditions, monuments and technologies. Whether to restore ancient monuments or to renovate them into a new structure is a debatable issue. I will be discussing both the views along with my thinking on it in the upcoming paragraphs.

The individuals who stands in support of a restoration has many reasons. To begin with, it will help to conserve authenticity of the buildings or paintings. To exemplify, we can keep passing knowledge of the ancient time to the future generations so that they can know about their ancestors. Moreover, It can also be served as a source of knowledge for the historians who are keens to know about the things in past.

On the other hand, it is not wrong to advocate the replacement because, if it is an underdeveloped or developing nation there are other vital issues to fix rather than considering to spend money on restoring the ancient structures. For example, in India if government choose to invest in resolving problems like food scarcity, unemployment and a rising inflation will lead to overall development of a country. In addition, safety issue is one of the key reason. In other words, a restoration process do not guarantee overall strength of a monument so it is better to replace it if it is a threat to safety. Lastly, people are not that keen towards history so there is only a small chunk of individual who are really interested in old artifacts and monuments so it is not worth the money.

In conclusion, although I believe that restoring ancient structures is a good idea but government should account other vital factors first which can lead to overall upliftment of humankind while investing their development budget.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of restoration versus the economic and safety concerns of new construction. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding safety is mentioned but not fully explained, and the point about the lack of public interest in history is asserted without sufficient elaboration. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and perhaps a more nuanced conclusion that balances the two sides more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the final sentence. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which supports the logical development of your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'authenticity', 'underdeveloped', and 'artifacts'. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'modern edge competitive word' (likely meant 'modern-day competitive world') and 'keens to know' (should be 'keen to know'). Additionally, 'account other vital factors' should be 'take into account'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better attention to collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The individuals who stands' should be 'stand') and article usage ('a restoration process do not guarantee' should be 'does not guarantee'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the clarity of your sentences. While you attempt complex structures, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage would significantly improve your score.
