Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a rationale for restoration, the second paragraph focuses heavily on the safety risks of old buildings, which is a valid point but lacks nuance regarding the 'modernization' aspect. The examples provided, such as the Ram Mandir and the Taj restaurant, are relevant but could be better integrated to support the argument more logically. The position is consistent, but the depth of analysis is limited, preventing it from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Discussing the former view' and 'Moving towards Second view', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints and the conclusion. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'modernize constructions' instead of 'modern constructions' and 'emotionally obsessed with architects' (likely meaning architecture). Phrases like 'human damage' are also slightly unnatural. While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies occasionally hinder the precision of the argument. A wider range of topic-specific vocabulary would help to elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Old building and museums plays', 'This structure are') and article usage. Some sentences are awkward, such as 'older buildings are often comes in contact with'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and affect the overall fluency. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly pluralization and verb tense consistency.
