Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, there is considerable debate about whether old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries should be restored or authorities should make new modern buildings. While some people think that maintenance of old infrastructure is more costly so it should be replaced, however others think those buildings are important to maintain our historical collections. This essay will discuss both views before presenting my own opinion.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why some people believe that town halls and art galleries should be restored. One of the main reasons is that it shows our history and culture. This is because in old buildings, individuals have an opportunity to see our historical paintings and cultural arts. For example, in England there is one old museum which has historical collections around the world. It allows people to enhance their knowledge about history of distinct regions.
On the other hand, others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings. One the primary reasons of that by doing this government could save a lot of money. This is because new buildings do not need extra maintenance cost. In addition, modern building are often more attracted by youngsters because of their new technical systems.
In my opinion, although new building saves finances which increase the economy of the country. But, old buildings are more significant to preserve our history and culture of the nation.
In conclusion, old building should be restored to save our antique collections related to history. But, new buildings should not be replaced with old ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion, meeting the requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that old buildings show history and culture, the explanation is quite brief. Similarly, the argument for modern buildings focuses on cost and technology but lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, you could discuss the environmental impact of demolition versus renovation or the social value of heritage sites in more detail to fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition 'This is because in old buildings...' is a bit repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'maintenance', and 'significant'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'modern building are often more attracted by youngsters' is incorrect; it should be 'more attractive to'. Additionally, 'save finances' is less natural than 'save money' or 'reduce costs'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate to convey your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, the opening sentence has a missing conjunction or punctuation issue: '...should be restored or authorities should make...'. You also have issues with article usage ('the history of distinct regions') and subject-verb agreement ('modern building are'). Furthermore, the sentence 'But, old buildings are more significant...' is a sentence fragment. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors and ensuring complex sentences are constructed accurately will help improve your score.
