Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historical buildings versus the economic benefits of modern infrastructure. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding modern buildings focuses heavily on amenities like 'Wifi' and 'electric passwords' rather than broader urban planning or economic impacts. To reach a higher band, the arguments need more depth and sophisticated analysis rather than listing features. The position is clear, but the conclusion is slightly repetitive of the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'For instance', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Most of the people believe that... although it may be expensive but it helps...'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could benefit from more varied linking words to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'contemporary world', 'monuments', and 'sustainable development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'building plays an integral role' (should be 'buildings') and 'higher authorities replace them' (should be 'governments' or 'authorities'). The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the use of 'electric passwords' is an unusual collocation for modern building features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the historic monuments', 'the country economy'), subject-verb agreement ('OLD Buildings helps'), and punctuation. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Most of the people believe that ancient monuments like art galleries, town halls, should be rebuilt, although it may be expensive but it helps...'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to pluralization and article usage would improve accuracy.
