Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some members of society believe that past times buildings like town halls and art galleries should be renovated without thinking about the cost of repairing, On the other hand, Some people thinks that these type of buildings should be replaced by latest structures. In this essay we will discuss about both views and i am strongly agree with the first one.

To start with, some individuals want the buildings should be renovated, because these type building holds a lot of cultural values from history, and in the future people can see what kind of work was done by past people. For example, building such as forts and town halls will show future people about the historic kings and the civilizations of that time. Moreover, the old-style designs and structures should be available to future generations for new ideas to create anything impressive in the upcoming years.

On the other side, some groups of people believes that these buildings should be replaced by todays structures, this is fine to some extent that if the buildings are not in a state of renovation, So the new buildings would be great option instead of repairing the old ones. For Instance, the building like any food store or mall can generate income as compared to repair the old buildings.

In conclusion, however old structures can be costly to repair and not generate any income, but for saving the tradition, culture and old designs, the government should renovate them without looking at the cost, and i am totally agree with this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention cultural value and economic benefits, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. For instance, the example of 'forts and town halls' is a good start, but it is not fully explored to explain why these specific structures are worth the high cost of restoration. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by a more detailed explanation or a more concrete, real-world example. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall development remains basic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To start with,' 'Moreover,' and 'On the other side.' However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the phrasing 'this is fine to some extent that if the buildings are not in a state of renovation.' Additionally, the use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and capitalization errors (e.g., 'repairing, On the other hand'). Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'these type of buildings' and 'past times buildings.' There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'not in a state of renovation' (which should be 'beyond repair') and 'i am totally agree' (which should be 'I totally agree'). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to architecture, heritage, and urban development, and pay closer attention to standard collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('some groups of people believes'), article usage ('the building like any food store'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. For example, 'some individuals want the buildings should be renovated' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'some individuals believe that buildings should be renovated.' While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement.
