Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some would argue that old buildings should be repaired even though it can be a little costly, while, other belive that the state can replace them with new one. I will discuss both views in the upcoming paragraph.
The first and foremost one is that the old building teaches the value of culture and provides knowledge about how people lived in the past. make it more clearer, the nowadays, young genration have never visit villages and they unawer about the culture heritage. in mordern era, children are born in cities, so they just visit foreign places instead of town halls and art galleties.
On the other hand, the government should replace them with a new one because if they include modern amenities like solar panels, energy consumption will help reduce the cost of maintaining buildings; as a result, this money can be used for education and the healthcare system. In addition to this, if old buildings like art galleries had only a small portion of pictures and old technology, as a result, the young generation would not properly understand the history.
In my opinion, modern buildings give more options to visit that place and also have more equipment and the endengured spices to explore. This can help them understand that history is not an abstract subject. They can feel that.
In conclusion, although old buildings teach values of culture and give knowledge about the past, modern buildings help improve amenities and give a proper visual picture of old buildings in fast ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The argument for restoration is somewhat vague, focusing on 'culture' without specific examples. The argument for replacement is better supported with the mention of modern amenities like solar panels. The conclusion is slightly confusing as it suggests modern buildings provide a 'visual picture of old buildings,' which contradicts the prompt's premise of replacing them. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples and ensure your arguments are logically consistent throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'make it more clearer' is not a standard transition, and 'as a result' is used repetitively and sometimes incorrectly. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from cultural value to modern city life is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'belive', 'genration', 'unawer', 'mordern', 'galleties', and 'endengured spices' (likely meant 'endangered species'). Additionally, some word choices are awkward or imprecise, such as 'make it more clearer' and 'fast ways'. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and using more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('other belive', 'building teaches'), article usage ('the old building', 'a new one'), and sentence fragments or run-on sentences. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, such as 'if they include modern amenities... energy consumption will help reduce the cost'. You need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
