Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is considered by some individuals that traditional buildings, like art galleries and halls in villages should be preserved, although this can be costly, whereas others believe that governments should replace them with modern style architecture. I think that replacing old building with new one would be a good idea. This essay will shed light on pros and cons of both statements before forming a conclusion.
To begin with, there is an array of merits of ancient structure. The most important one to be considered is that the aged buildings are important to preserve historic culture. As a consequence, it impacts masses in positive way, for instance if people want to destroy old memories, then they don't have anything related to their culture to show to their next generation and after some time they will also forget their historic memories. Although, there are plenty of advantages, but disadvantages such as cost is equally impactful. One crucial con is that it can be costly to preserve these buildings. This results in decrease country's GDP, as it will need more money to rebuild the old structures than building something new, also government may not find some who can design traditional building as those buildings were made by ancient workers.
On the other hand, there are numerous benefits of modern buildings. First of all, the most prevalent one is that these buildings can be used as long-term basis. Eventually, this can have a positive impact on people because they can learn things from new style art galleries according to today's world. It also helps government as they don't have to put more efforts in making the buildings looks modern for future generation. In addition to this, there are some negative points as well such as everyone will lose their traditional and historical places. This results in adaptation, for instance, people will begin to seek their traditions in new architecture and at that time there will be nothing that masses can show to their children.
To conclude, although there are numerous merits of old structures, but according to my point of view modern style structures will be beneficial for society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and clearly states a personal position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the argument regarding the 'loss of culture' is repetitive and lacks specific, concrete examples to support the claims. While the prompt asks for a discussion of both views, the reasoning provided for why modern buildings are superior is somewhat vague, relying on general statements rather than detailed analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific evidence or logical depth, ensuring that each paragraph contributes significantly to the overall argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition to this,' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'This results in adaptation,' where the connection to the previous point is tenuous. The use of cohesive devices is sufficient but could be more varied and natural to improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'architecture,' 'prevalent,' and 'traditional.' However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'impacts masses in positive way' (should be 'has a positive impact on the masses') and 'put more efforts in making' (should be 'invest more effort into making'). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Focusing on collocations and more sophisticated academic phrasing would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('decrease country's GDP' should be 'decrease the country's GDP') and subject-verb agreement. Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the misuse of commas in 'Although, there are plenty of advantages, but disadvantages...' which is grammatically incorrect. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Increasing your control over complex structures and proofreading for minor grammatical slips would improve your performance.
