Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few people in this world thinks new buildings should be made rather than renovating old memories like town halls and art galleries. i believe we should restore old buildings as they help us to prevented the culture and history.

To begin with, restoring the old buildings are more costly because the work done in old structures is somehow handmade which need to hire advance skilled worker how have proper knowledge of that material. Secondly, there is a high risk of breaking down anytime. In most of the cases do not know what thinks were kept in mind while making the frame due to which we have no idea how much natural disasters they can handel. For example, the qutak minar building in India got broken down in 5.5 magnitude earthquake even after renovation as it was only done in roofs and walls not in underground body structures because doing that was more costly than making new one.

On the other hand, group of people says we should save then as they are good source of tourism because people from different contries come to visit old museums and other buildings as some of them are keen interested in knowing history. As well as in some citys and town old buildings are identity’s as name of most of cities are taken from the most famous thing in that area . To illustrate, the city victoria in british columbia is named because of palace made of queen victoria in taht region.

To conclude, as per me we should restore old buildings undoubtedly they can be costly and at risk of breaking unexpected but they are solid sign of history and culture which is most vital for any nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for replacing buildings is supported by an example, but the reasoning regarding structural integrity and natural disasters is slightly confusing and lacks clarity. The argument for restoration is better supported by the tourism and cultural identity points. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the depth of analysis is limited, and some points, such as the specific example of the Qutub Minar, are not entirely accurate or well-integrated into the argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition into the second paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the link between the 'identity' of a city and the naming convention is a bit disjointed. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow could be smoother with more sophisticated linking.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'prevented the culture' (should be 'preserve'), 'advance skilled worker' (should be 'highly skilled workers'), and 'keen interested' (should be 'keenly interested'). Spelling errors are also present, such as 'contries', 'citys', and 'taht'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated lexical items prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'Few people... thinks' and 'restoring the old buildings are'. There are also issues with article usage, preposition choice, and verb forms, for example, 'how have proper knowledge' (should be 'who have') and 'identity’s' (should be 'identities'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of reading, though they do not completely obscure the meaning. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
