Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is often debate about whether government should restore the old buildings or replace them with new buildings. While some people believe that old buildings has to be restored while other argue that it has to be restored with the new buildings.
The old buildings such as town halls and art galleries has to be restored as it represents our culture and heritage. In ancient days people used to carve on the walls of the building to explain about their tradition and its significance. For example, when you look at the ancient structures like temples in India the stones are beautiful carved which explains the stories of mythology. As a result, it helps to promote our culture, traditional values to our future generation and also helps to increase the tourism.
On the other hand, the government has to replace the old building with the new one according to the safety standards. If the building is very old and it is about to collapse and there is a threat for the peoples life then those buildings must be replaced and can transform into the museums where you can represent the details of demolished building and its importance. Therefore, the old architecture is replaced with the new construction without loosing its essence and also helps the archeology department to investigate and know about the age of the building and tools used for carving.
In my opinion, government should replace the buildings according to its importance and history behind the architecture. Although, it costs more to restore the old constructions but its our responsibility to preserve our history and pass it to the next generations. Because of that we will be able to increase the tourism by promoting our culture and history.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the argument for restoration is supported by a relevant example (Indian temples), the argument for replacement is slightly contradictory, as it suggests replacing buildings while simultaneously preserving their essence through museums. The position is clear, but the reasoning could be more nuanced to fully explore the trade-offs between cost and cultural preservation. The conclusion reiterates the stance but introduces a slight confusion by suggesting replacement based on importance, which was not fully explored in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand,' 'For example,' and 'As a result,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is logical, even if the internal logic of the arguments occasionally wavers.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'mythology,' 'architecture,' and 'essence,' which are used correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'loosing' instead of 'losing' and 'peoples life' instead of 'people's lives.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'old buildings has to be restored,' 'stones are beautiful carved'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in possessives and pluralization. While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and refining the use of complex sentence forms to ensure they are error-free.
