Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is always a controversial issue that weather the old building and art galleries should be restored or not. So in upcoming we will discuss the views of both sides along with my opinion. Even though I believe that they are not just building they are part of history.
To begin with, old building and art galleries which people grew by watching are not just a structure they are a memory. Which most of people want to preserved and want to show up their grand kids, that how was the town look like when they were the kids. These building are also a crucial part of architectural history, because it shows the difference of modern and old structures and help the students to learn about the difference. The longer the building survived, bigger the cornerstone it becomes for architectures. For example Taj Mahal, Red Fort etcetera. These kind o building helps to attract tourists.
On the other hand, some people think restoring old buying also reduce their strengths also when they try to add or update modern techniques such as ventilation and air-conditioning would also damaged the structural strength. It makes jobs not just harder, expensive as well as by slowing down the speed of restoration. So Instead of wasting time and money they rather prefer to construct a new building with modern techniques.
Overall, as per my view I would prefer to keep the building which are good in shape to add a historical sense in the place rather than completely clearing it out. Because it would help to attract tourism and value to town.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the structural risks of restoration is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific evidence. The introduction is slightly underdeveloped, and the conclusion is brief. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific examples, ensuring that the 'why' behind your opinion is clearly articulated throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the opening paragraph. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'architectural history' and 'structural strength'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'weather the old building' (whether), 'grew by watching' (grew up watching), and 'old buying' (buildings). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that your word choices are precise and appropriate for the context of an academic discussion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('These kind o building helps'), pluralization ('old building'), and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally affects the clarity of your points. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your writing.
