Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While the prompt asks to discuss both views and provide an opinion, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the second paragraph. The position is stated in the introduction, but the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth or examples to meet the requirements of the task. Because the response is less than half the required length, it fails to address the task fully, resulting in a low score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts to use basic cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason' and 'To explain it further'. However, the abrupt ending and the lack of a concluding paragraph mean there is no overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the second paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, which disrupts the logical flow of the argument. The structure is too fragmented to demonstrate effective organization beyond a very basic level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'contemporary era' and 'civil work' are used, but there is a lack of precision and variety. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'reconstruct old building' (should be plural) and 'modernize' (should be 'modernized'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the limited length prevents the demonstration of a wider lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors, such as 'government should reconstruct' (missing article), 'old structures should be modernize' (incorrect verb form), and 'if the government reconstruct old building' (subject-verb agreement and article errors). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting more complex constructions. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors is high relative to the short length of the text.
