Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals think that historical buildings like town halls and art galleries should be renovated. I agree with this sentiment because they hold a legacy of our past traditions and also preserve our historical monuments.

Traditional buildings and art galleries help us find information on the legacy of our previous generation that what things were found or were created by people of that era. By visiting these places, we can come to know that what art work and things were people good at. For example, the world famous art work of the Mona Lisa in France is a perfect example of our historical artwork. Another such monument which comes in our mind is the Taj Mahal located in India, it is a such a fine piece of artwork that tourist from across the world still go there to find information and click photos of the beautiful sculptures.

If this buildings were completely destroyed, then we would lose so much access to information about our past, and by preserving our historical buildings we would also be passing the information to our future generation. Even if the government decides to completely destroy this art galleries and building they will be playing with the believes of the people, as many generations of people are connected to such historical sites. Already in this modern era we have so much concrete buildings which are made by modern work and even if we decide to replace our old building with new one we would lose so much of our history.

In conclusion, I agree that old buildings like art galleries and town halls should be preserved and only be renovated even though it might be a little bit costly, but eventually it would help us preserve our history.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the importance of history, the argument regarding the 'costly' nature of restoration is not fully explored or balanced against the benefits of modern buildings. The examples provided, such as the Mona Lisa and the Taj Mahal, are relevant but slightly tangential, as the prompt specifically asks about town halls and art galleries. To improve, ensure that your supporting points directly address the specific context of the prompt and provide a more balanced discussion of the trade-offs involved in urban development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion', to link your thoughts. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this buildings' and 'this art galleries', which creates a minor disruption in the flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'renovated', 'monuments', and 'historical sites'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'find information on the legacy' or 'what things were found'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'playing with the believes of the people' (should be 'beliefs'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure precise usage of word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'If this buildings were'), article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'that what things were found'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences, such as in the second paragraph regarding the Taj Mahal. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the structure of complex sentences to ensure they are error-free.
