Student answer (Band 6.5)

In modern era, tourism is a best way for the growth of the nation. Therefore, the art exhibition like museums should be refurbished in order to learn the historical and cultural values of the nations even though this can be expensive whereas, opponents believe regimes should spend money to built new buildings rather than renovate the old ones. I will discuss both the views along with reason in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, art galleries are great source of information. First and the foremost reason is that it maintain the historical and cultural values of the nation. To explain it more, Old buildings helps to maintain the history of particular era through the information and symbols on walls, paintings and others things such as how people work at that time. For instance, Taj Mahal which is a great historical site in India and built in the memory of his wife Mumtaj by Mughal emperor Shahjhan. Moreover, Other main reason is that old art galleries is a centre of attraction for tourists. Numerous visitors come from different countries to visit this historical buildings to enhance their knowledge. Even this also helps to create employment opportunities and generate income for local businesses. Therefore, helps to increase the development of the economy of the nation.

On the flip side, why higher authorities should replace these building with new ones the reason behind this is that the regime have limited budget. Instead of restored these sites it is more beneficial to replace them with the construction of new schools and hospitals and other essential services. Furthermore, these old buildings have less facilities as compare to new ones. such as no internet connection, not air condition. In order to renovate these sites workers need to spend not only more times but also more money which is not beneficial for the economy of the nation.

To recapitulate, although historical buildings have a great importance to know the history of a particular nation so it can not be completely replaced with the new ones even though it can be expensive. As per me, a balanced approach is beneficial the sites which have little importance can be replaced by new modern buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historical sites versus the economic benefits of modernization. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example of the Taj Mahal is a bit generic, and the discussion on the 'cons' of old buildings (e.g., lack of internet) is slightly superficial. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of these points rather than just listing them. Your position is clear throughout, which is a strength, but the introduction could be more precisely focused on the prompt's specific topic of town halls and galleries rather than general tourism.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the flip side,' and 'To recapitulate' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'Other main reason is that' is slightly awkward. Additionally, the referencing within sentences could be smoother; for example, 'these old buildings' is used effectively, but some sentences lack a strong logical flow between the premise and the conclusion. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to a coherent structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbished,' 'historical and cultural values,' and 'employment opportunities.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'regimes' (which usually refers to political systems, whereas 'governments' or 'authorities' is more appropriate here), 'built' instead of 'build,' and 'less facilities as compare to' instead of 'fewer facilities compared to.' While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range to include more precise academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Old buildings helps'), article usage ('the art exhibition like museums'), and verb forms ('Instead of restored these sites'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and missing commas that affect readability. To improve, focus on ensuring that your complex structures are error-free and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like pluralization and tense consistency. The errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
