Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern world, everything is changing day by day old buildings are replacing with new buildings. Due to which, some people believe that old buildings, museums, community centers should be repaired and reserve as same as part of historical memories. While, other argue that there is no need to restored the old buildings as it is wastage of money and they think that government should change them with new building. According to me, both views has a logical backgrounds which i will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs before giving my own opinion.

Historical building has a remarkable impact on new generation. The main reason that comes in my mind is that these building helps kids and youth to stay connect with their roots and values. An explanation can be given as an example of Jallianwala Bhag in Amritsar in India. A survey showed that a larger number of innocent people died in open fire by the command of the government. That building still has a bullet marks on the wall and the old blood of innocent people. So keeping these building as it is will help new generation to remember the scarifies and deaths of their accents.

Another point deals with opposite side. There is no doubt that old building need a large amount of funds for restore that will not giving any benefit to anyone. However, people think that it is better to make a new building due to the advancement of the technology. It also helps to contribute to enhance the beauty of the city. For example. a survey in turbine showed that new cities and towns are better option for people to live as compared to old towns as they are more clean and safe.

In conclusion, both views has a valid points but in my opinion, I believe that old building have to restore for our youth because it helps them to connect with their culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion, meeting the requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for restoration is supported by a relevant historical example, but the counter-argument regarding modern buildings is less developed and relies on vague references to 'a survey in turbine' (likely a typo or misunderstanding of a source). While the position is clear, the explanation of why restoration is preferable could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response is balanced, but the supporting evidence for the second viewpoint lacks sufficient depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'In conclusion', and 'Another point', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'While, other argue' which is grammatically awkward. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas feels a bit repetitive in the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'reserve as same as part of historical memories' and 'the old blood of innocent people'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'restored' and 'advancement', but there are consistent errors in collocation and word form (e.g., 'scarifies' instead of 'sacrifices', 'accents' instead of 'ancestors'). The range is sufficient to communicate the main points but is not flexible or sophisticated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('both views has', 'old building need'), article usage ('the command of the government'), and pluralisation ('a bullet marks'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex structures. The student demonstrates an attempt to use complex sentences, but the control over these structures is inconsistent, leading to frequent minor errors that affect the overall fluency of the writing.
