Student answer (Band 6.0)
In todays generation, many individuals believe that old structures and art museums should be preserve even it cost more to maintain it. Whereas, some argue that local authorities should replace with new building. After careful consideration, I agree that it is more beneficial to maintain old structure and art galleries because it helps to maintain their country's famous culture.
To begin with, for any country, it is very important to maintain and preserve their local architect building. In other words, preserving this type for structure, will not only help their society, but also helps their future generation to know about their ancestor's masteries. For instance, every year, local authorities in India are spending lots of money to maintain 'Taj Mahal', which is also known as seven wonders of world and helps their people spread their culture all around the world. Moreover, spending money on maintaining art galleries and old town halls will help in local appreciation and increase in tourism from all over the world, which directly helps local communities businesses.
On the other hand, many argue that the government should focus on replacing old building with new structures. By constructing new high rise building will helps the local business man to earn lots of revenue. To cite an example, when builder construct a tall modern building by replacing local art and town structure, it will help in increase in job opportunity and revenue growth, but also vanish local art work which is important for local heritage.
In conclusion, although building a modern building will help local community and business man to earn money, preserving and maintaining old structures and art galleries are more important and beneficial to whole country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural value of historical sites versus the economic benefits of modernization. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument for preservation is supported by the example of the Taj Mahal, but the counter-argument regarding modernization is less developed and relies on general statements about 'revenue growth' and 'job opportunities' without specific, concrete examples. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that the conclusion clearly synthesizes the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the benefits of modernization and the loss of heritage in the third paragraph could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'local authorities,' 'modernization,' and 'heritage.' However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'ancestor's masteries' (likely meaning 'ancestral craftsmanship' or 'heritage') and 'vanish local art work' (should be 'destroy' or 'obliterate'). The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision in word choice and the repetition of basic terms prevent a higher score. Expanding the range of synonyms and collocations would improve the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('building... helps', 'builder construct'), missing articles ('replace with new building'), and incorrect verb forms ('should be preserve'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses, pluralization, and article usage, which would allow for a more consistent display of control.
