Student answer (Band 6.5)

Whether preserving old monuments, art galleries, and town halls without considering the expenses associated with it or replace them with new architectural designs has become the significant part of a debate. Some people are in favour of this while others have argued that it should not be done as it involves a huge amount of money and time. This essay will examine the both view in the following paragraphs before presenting my opinion.

To begin with the reasons that support the idea of keeping old infrastructure intact. Although this process is quite expensive, it attracts a substantial number of tourists in our country. In addition, these museums and art galleries are not only the national identities but also a valuable source of historical information. Consequently, people from the outside nation will bring their personal experiences and finances to our nation that results in the growth of foreign exchange and investment. Apart from that these restored ancient buildings will contribute effectively in country’s future generations. They will remember them as an ancestor’s recognition and pride. As a result, they will feel attached to their roots and culture.

On the other hand, government should also consider to develop the modern industrial infrastructure for the community instead of spending money to restore the old buildings. Firstly, it is required in some areas the infrastructure should be maintained. In order to ensure the world’s population is acquiring the benefit of resources, the administration should be laible to build a modernized society.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that both sides has its own significance and should be treated equally with utmost care. However, ancient buildings are often required to maintain their original structure as they are part of the culture, art, and human history.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The arguments for restoration are well-supported with points about tourism and cultural identity. Conversely, the arguments for modernizing infrastructure are less developed and lack specific examples or depth, making the second body paragraph feel rushed. To improve, ensure that both viewpoints receive equal weight and depth of analysis. The introduction is slightly awkward in its phrasing regarding the debate, but the overall task requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Consequently', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the phrase 'the both view' in the introduction is grammatically incorrect and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You have used some good collocations like 'national identities', 'historical information', and 'foreign exchange'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'outside nation' instead of 'foreign countries' or 'international visitors', and 'laible' (likely a misspelling of 'liable' or 'expected'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher band scores. Focusing on more precise academic collocations would enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors that persist, such as 'Whether... has become the significant part of a debate' (a sentence fragment), 'both sides has' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'consider to develop' (incorrect verb pattern). Punctuation is generally fine, but the frequency of these minor grammatical errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
