Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be rebuild, even though this can be expensive. but others argue that government should replace them with new, modern building. in my view, government may replace that old things into new is good idea in contrast rebuild them with them with others things also great.

on firstly, the restored old building is good things to make old ,massy to new and attractive.in additional, that make town new. However, some expansive thins don't through that replace with new modern. for instance, we have one old and valuable stachu it look dirty and bad but we did not restored this because this is valuable and old expensive, so that time the government should replace that with new designed. as result we save that important stachu with save some money.

on secondly, some times some things are to old and no look good then that time restored them is better than replace them. moreover, the halls and art galleries can replaceable but that need restored. Therefore, old building should restore and replace new modern buildings is great combination. as a result, the old buildings namely, halls and art galleries looks good with a new replaceable way. it's save crucial old instruments. However, that's things are expansive.

in conclusion, in my thought the both points have a pros and cons. therefore, that should build old building with new designed is great. its make easier and look attractive and people visit town after made the building with new replaceable and restored buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are often unclear or contradictory, such as the confusing example of the 'stachu' (statue) and the suggestion that buildings should be both restored and replaced simultaneously. The position is present but lacks the depth required for a higher band. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, and the reasoning is not always logical or easy to follow, which hinders the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While cohesive devices like 'on firstly', 'on secondly', and 'in conclusion' are used, they are often misused or grammatically incorrect. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the lack of clear, logical links between sentences makes the overall structure feel disjointed and mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are numerous errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'massy' (likely meaning messy or mass), 'expansive' (used instead of expensive), and 'stachu' (statue). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. The repetition of basic words like 'good', 'new', and 'old' further limits the quality of the response. Significant improvement in word choice and spelling is required.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure (e.g., 'government may replace that old things into new is good idea'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Simple sentences are also prone to errors. Punctuation is inconsistent, and the overall control of grammar is insufficient to convey ideas accurately.
