Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people says that old buildings, like town halls and art galleries, should be restored, irrespective of the high cost. However, others debates that government should replace them with new and modern buildings. Old buildings hold a different level of value where some of the unique items cannot be replaced with a new object. Although old things cannot be replaced, a new decoration can be made to modernize this. This both views and my opinion will be elaborated in further paragraphs.

To elaborate positive side, town halls and art galleries represents aesthetic beauty of the past and hold a unique display of the history. Replacing all with completely new set of buildings will make it disappear it old essence. For example, artistic designs cannot be replaced with something modern. Although if it is done, it might also replace the original look of it. Considering this all reasons, I believe it would be better to restore such antiques rather than destroying all.

However, in this new world and modern era, people are more drifted towards new buildings, new decoration instead of something old and boring. The social media trend shows that people are more leaned towards new arts and places. Furthermore, modernizing this buildings can attract more and more new people which can lead to more financial profits. For example, as mentioned that social media is the key to make awareness to young people, as they will make the reels and posts regarding the same, advertising will be automatically increase.

In conclusion, restoring and replacing have their own pros and cons. I believe with the old saying that, " Old is Gold " and even though restoring needs a lot of financial support it should be restored to preserve the essence which cannot be regained if it is lost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention the aesthetic value of old buildings and the financial potential of modernizing them, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the mention of 'social media' and 'reels' is a relevant modern context, but it is not fully connected to the core debate of preservation versus replacement. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by a more detailed explanation or a concrete, real-world example to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Considering this all reasons'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, for example, 'modernizing this buildings' and 'as mentioned that social media is the key'. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, using terms like 'aesthetic beauty', 'antiques', and 'financial support'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'others debates' (should be 'others argue'), 'drifted towards' (should be 'drawn to'), and 'advertising will be automatically increase' (should be 'advertising will automatically increase'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific terminology would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people says', 'others debates'), incorrect pluralization ('this buildings'), and awkward sentence construction ('Replacing all with completely new set of buildings will make it disappear it old essence'). These errors are noticeable and occur regularly. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without unnecessary repetition or missing articles.
