Student answer (Band 6.0)

Conservation of heritage site has been always a topic of discussion. Some people believe that old buildings should be preserved for the next generation and others assert that modern buildings should be build in place of old one as it is more practical solution. In this essay, I will discuss both views, however I am slightly inclined towards former view.

On one hand, Heritage buildings should be preserve as it consists of art from renowned history Artists. Future Generations can learn the art and creativity from the museums. For example, In this modern era, many individuals buy the paintings by spending reasonable amount of money. This paintings are helpful to understand them how people are using their creativity and art in the past. Apart from this, old buildings represent the cultural values of our ancestors which help the new generation to stick to their roots and tradition.

On the other hand, nowadays, increasing population and urbanization have been a major issue. As a result, there a lack of space to create new buildings. To resolve this issue, modern building can be build replacing the older one. This can be the practical solution to eliminate the issue of house scarcity. However, Government can use other sites as well if it has less cultural value.

To sum up, preserving artwork and culture values are the main reason to preserve the old building. Though, Modernization and increasing population can be the hurdle to preserve the sites, Government can use other land for urbanization.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments regarding the preservation of heritage are a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on 'art' rather than the broader historical or architectural significance. The counter-argument regarding urbanization is relevant but lacks depth; the suggestion that the government can simply use other land is a surface-level observation. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the socio-economic implications of both restoration and modernization to demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To sum up' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear; for instance, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'This paintings are helpful to understand them' is grammatically awkward and creates a slight disruption in flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'urbanization' and 'heritage buildings,' but there are frequent errors in word form and collocation, such as 'modern buildings should be build' (should be built) and 'cultural values' (cultural value). Additionally, some phrasing is repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'old buildings' and 'modern buildings.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to architecture and urban planning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('there a lack of space'), incorrect verb forms ('should be preserve' instead of 'should be preserved'), and pluralization errors ('This paintings'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and ensuring that passive voice constructions are formed correctly.
