Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the points regarding cultural heritage and economic development are relevant, the supporting arguments are occasionally underdeveloped or lack logical clarity, such as the claim that town halls help children stay healthy through indoor games. The conclusion is slightly repetitive of the introduction rather than synthesising the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example is directly linked to the core argument and provides a more sophisticated justification.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'So that, governments and citizens should have...'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'it' when referring to plural nouns like 'buildings'. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'pivotal role', 'amenities', and 'innovative notion'. However, there are several spelling errors ('goverment', 'resons', 'battels', 'sacrifies', 'taht', 'siginficant') and minor collocation issues ('substitute them with' instead of 'replace them with'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, topic-specific vocabulary to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('both plays a pivotal role', 'buildings are also important') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. The errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures.
