Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that heritage buildings such as town halls and museums must be restored, while others believe that government should spend on modern and new buildings. Although modern buildings has several advantages, I believe old buildings are better because it represent culture and art of an old era.
The heritage buildings has a significant impact on different things because it has a powerful connection between culture and community. The museum and art galleries who represent history and art to the people make a huge effects on young generation. For instance, in this modern world children are adapting things easily with a visual effects. Although, old buildings has a emotional attachment with a community, it represent a city as well. As a result, restoration of old buildings brings a valuable vibes to the city.
On the other hand, modern buildings has their own benefits like, better facilities, advanced equipment and cheaper. Apart from that, it increases the number of offices and apartments. Although this new towers solve the traffic problem, it is not strong enough to survive in natural disaster. Additionally, people are more towards unique and heritage items as compared to modern items. Additionally, government can use their spending on other things like child welfare and safety.
In conclusion, Although build a modern buildings has some advantages, I believe that old buildings restoration is far better and important because of this structure city can get their popularity in the world. For example, the Taj mahal from India is very popular in the world because of their structure and old art works.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that modern buildings are not strong enough to survive natural disasters is a sweeping generalization that lacks supporting evidence or logical depth. While the essay covers all parts of the prompt, the supporting points, such as the mention of child welfare, are not fully integrated into the main argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and ensure that your examples, like the Taj Mahal, are more directly linked to the core argument of restoration versus replacement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion,' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'Additionally' to start consecutive sentences. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the use of 'it' in 'it represent a city' is ambiguous as it is unclear whether 'it' refers to the building or the restoration process. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun reference would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'huge effects' and 'valuable vibes,' which are informal or imprecise. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'build a modern buildings' (should be 'building modern structures') and 'people are more towards' (should be 'people have a preference for'). To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to architecture and urban planning, rather than relying on general-purpose language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'modern buildings has' (should be 'have') and 'it represent' (should be 'they represent'). There are also errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'the museum and art galleries who' (should be 'which') and 'a natural disaster'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent pluralization.
