Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 90 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The introduction attempts to outline the two views, but the essay is cut off mid-sentence in the first body paragraph. Because the response is significantly under-length and lacks a conclusion or a fully developed argument, it does not provide a clear position or sufficient support for the ideas presented. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay by providing a full discussion of both sides and a clear personal opinion, while meeting the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows an attempt at logical organization by using 'On the one hand' to introduce the first viewpoint. However, because the text is incomplete, there is no overall progression or coherent structure. Paragraphing is attempted but remains underdeveloped due to the abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, such as 'The main reason is that'. To improve, you should focus on developing each paragraph with a clear topic sentence, supporting evidence, and a concluding sentence, ensuring that the essay flows logically from the introduction to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'buildings' and 'people'. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'should restore' instead of 'should be restored' and 'should be replace' instead of 'should be replaced'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas about urban planning or cultural heritage. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and ensure correct word forms are used in passive constructions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. For example, 'should restore' is grammatically incorrect in this context, as it requires a passive voice ('should be restored'). There are also issues with sentence structure, such as the sentence fragment 'While others believe that those should be replace with new modern buildings by governments.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization of 'Although' and 'Old'. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering passive voice constructions and ensuring that sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
