Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been ongoing debate surrounding whether governments should invest in restoring old monuments or replacing them with new buildings. Some individuals believe that it's important to preserve old building as it hold cultural value. While others assert that the old constructions should be demolished for safety purposes. This essay will discuss both views before I present my opinion why preserving taking a balance approach will be the right way.
On one hand, people who argues to restore old buildings such as town halls and art galleries, believe that such monuments play a crucial role in preserving cultural value for future generation. old architeture act as a window to past for understanding the way people use to live earlier. Moreover, It's important for future generation to know about their ancestors, to stay connected to their culture. For instance, Children visiting places such as art galleries will develop a deep connection with their custom, lifestyle and language. Additionally, such places can bring benefit to country in terms of attracting tourism and help elevating the economy.
On the other hand, some individuals believe that preserving such old buildings will not be beneficial as it won't serve the basic needs such as comfort and safety. The old buildings constructions won't be able to meet modern requirements. For examples, the old town hall won't have enough space to accumulate enough people making it unusable for any gathering. similarly, the old building might not have proper facilities for disable and elderly people. Therefore, government should demolish such buildings and construct more comfortable and accessable building as per modern requirements.
In my opinion, although new construction is important in terms of comfort and safety I believe balance approach should be taken by government. The old buildings which are not safe to be used should be demolished. However, governments should invest to reconstruct and preserve old buildings as old archieture and designs are difficult to build again.
In conclusion, old buildings should be protected for its cultural values and for future generations. However, the building which can not serve its purpose in terms of comfort and safety should be taken down.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the preservation of old buildings for cultural value versus replacing them with modern structures for safety and comfort—and provides a clear personal opinion. The student's position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are generally well-extended, such as the mention of children visiting art galleries to connect with their customs, and the economic benefits of tourism. However, some minor generalizations occur, and certain points like safety and accessibility are slightly repetitive in the third paragraph. Overall, the task is covered well, aligning with the requirements of a Band 7 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organization with an introduction, two body paragraphs exploring opposing views, a discussion paragraph, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well to guide the reader, featuring transition phrases such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion'. However, occasional mechanical transitions or slightly awkward phrasing appear, such as 'before I present my opinion why preserving taking a balance approach', which indicates a minor breakdown in smooth cohesion. Nevertheless, the overall progression is logical and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.5 or solid 7.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range appropriate for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'cultural value', 'demolished', 'architecture', and 'tourism'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'building' instead of 'buildings', 'architeture' (misspelling of architecture), 'accumulate' instead of 'accommodate', 'disable' instead of 'disabled', and 'accessable' instead of 'accessible'. While these inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. The range is sufficient for precision on familiar topics, earning a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional ideas and relative clauses such as 'Some individuals believe that it's important to preserve old building as it hold cultural value.' There are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement issues ('old building as it hold', 'people who argues'), missing articles ('take a balanced approach'), and punctuation slips. Although these errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication, as the intended meaning remains clear to the reader. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.
