Student answer (Band 6.0)
The ongoing debate whether the old monuments should be restored, even if a huge amount spend by government, or whether these mesuems should be replaced with modern structure. Although old galleries hold the roots of ancient culture and help the new generation to know about the history, I believe that modern structure can attract the tourism and help to boost the economy of the country.
On the one hand, ancient monuments should be restored to hold the history of the nation. Since there are a number of people, who played an exceptional role in the past, these old mesuems preserve their works and sacrifices for the future references. For instance, a large number of soldiers lost their lives in the World War 2, and a famous mesuem called Notre Dame keeps their history and sacrifice. Furthermore, ancient galleries depict the tradition and culture of the nation, which help the new generation to know about the history and culture of the country.
On the other hand, old monuments should be replaced with newly structure, which can help the country to boost its economy in many ways. First of all, new buildings can significantly attract people to look around and know about the history. The technology is flourishing by peaks and bound, and if old buildings can be replaced with new technical ways, it can enhance the beauty of the old galleries. Moreover, this replacement can also increase tourism, which can help the nation to boost its economy.
In conclusion, although ancient monuments hold the history and the roots of the culture, which can help new generations to know about their ancestors and their sacrifices, i believe replacement of old buildings with new ones can be more beneficial for the country to attract tourism and boost the economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—restoring old buildings versus replacing them with modern structures—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, such as preserving cultural heritage and boosting the economy through tourism. However, some arguments lack full development. For instance, the example of Notre Dame being linked to World War II soldiers contains factual inaccuracies that weaken the support. Additionally, the point about technology enhancing old buildings is somewhat unclear. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing this response at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is structured into four logical paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. There is a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between ideas, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and local cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the incomplete opening sentence 'The ongoing debate whether...' which lacks a main verb and proper clause structure. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but transitional links within paragraphs could be smoother, resulting in a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'exceptional role', 'flourishing', and 'boost its economy'. However, there are several noticeable lexical and spelling errors that detract from precision, including 'mesuems' instead of 'museums', 'newly structure' instead of 'new structures', and the idiomatic misuse 'by peaks and bound' instead of 'by leaps and bounds'. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not severely impeded, which aligns with the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts complex structures using dependent clauses ('Although old galleries hold...', 'if old buildings can be replaced...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. The introductory sentence is a fragment ('The ongoing debate whether the old monuments should be restored...'), and there are preposition and article errors ('a huge amount spend by government', 'World War 2'). While these errors are noticeable and cause some stumbling, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
