Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether to restore old buildings or replace them with modern ones, and the writer clearly states their own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are presented and supported with reasons, such as cultural attachment versus economic benefits and job creation. However, some arguments lack full clarity and development, particularly the supporting example regarding India's GDP, which is somewhat confused in its phrasing. The position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent with an overall logical arrangement, following a standard four-paragraph structure with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', though referencing and transitions within paragraphs can occasionally feel mechanical or awkward, such as 'if these buildings become a new after investing a good amount of money'. This places the response comfortably at a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including terms like 'redevelop', 'architecture', 'cultural arts', and 'economy'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'support to develop', 'new architect designs', and 'novel high rise building'. Furthermore, word forms are sometimes misused, such as 'employments' instead of 'employment' or 'contributing' instead of 'contributed'. These errors do not seriously impede overall communication, reflecting a standard typical of Band 5.5 to 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting conditional and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, article usage, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'other believe that government should', 'which will helps community', and 'business plaza will assists'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries occasionally falter, as seen in run-on structures or sentence fragments. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
