IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Through different forms of print and digital media, we come across reports that there are plenty of old buildings available in my country.For instance,town halls,art galleries amd many more.One group opines that it should be restored even though it can be costly.In a sharp contrast, others argue that government should replace them with new modern buildings.After a close scrutiny of both the sides,I would go with the latter view.

Those who support the former ideology, put forward an argument that it should be restored because people can aware about our old buildings.This view exits as if people visit this kind of places,they can get knowledge from that and they can know about how was our old building actually look like.Moreover,I can not ignore the fact that they can know about historical art.This hypothesis is buoyed in the Idea that they can aware about our history.Thus,they like to preserve it even it shows our history and can explore it more.

Nevertheless, proponents of the second view state that government should replace them with new modern buildings.By this I mean that nowadays old buildings are unnecessary for people because they think that it modern buildings have in our town,they can get benefits from that.For instance, cinemas, shopping mall, hospitals, schools and many more.This can ne justified as they can visit this places with their near and dear ones whenever they can get free time.Evenmore,our town will look like modern city.If more schools will develop, students get more benefits from that.

A global research in this matter has proven that nowadays there are many buildings are replaced with new modern buildings and many people go there for enjoyment.

As far as my inclination is considered,If more and more old buildings replace with cinemas, people can get plenty of places to visit there and they can watch films in the cinemas.Furthermore, hospitals are ver important for people in emergency so I think that old buildings should replace with hospitals so that people can het better treatment in emergency.

All in, future will unfold many surprises for us.The need is to be proactive and plough ahead with optimism.
