IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this evolving world, only some of the old buildings are left. Some of the majority think the historical buildings and old museums should be rebuilt at any cost, and other believes the authorities should modernize the place by reconstructing. I will discuss both the viewpoints in the following paragraph with relevant examples.

The foremost reason to support restoring the old buildings because it shows the cultural heritage of the city. It is important to leave it for the younger generation. It depicts the history of the area. The architecture of the old building showcases the old designs that used to be handmade, and nowadays those designs are rare to find among the modern building. Also, these old buildings and art galleries generate revenue for the city for its own development by buying tickets for entrance and feel the experience of the old time. For example, In India, there are so many historical buildings that are restored by the government and charge ticket for the entrance and also create tourism that helps to earn money.

On contrast, the government should also build new buildings to modernise the look of the city. Mainly, buildings like hospitals and schools should be full of technology. Students learn new tech if the place itself is modern. because of the less space in the cities due to the population, the skyscrapers are also needed in today's lifestyle. In a survey conducted my the tribune , this shows the land area in big cities, is very limited beause of the increasing crowd and the need of the tall modern buildings are becoming nessisty for the government.

In conclusion, I believe both old and modern buildings are the part of the society . the old building shows the culture vaules of the history and the modern buildings needed to be urbanised . So, the government should divide the funds accordingly to manage the need of the society.
