IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

When the topic of wheather to restore the old buildings or replace it arises, there are divied opinions. some people argur that it should be preserved irrespetive of their costs;however, others believe that it should be completely replaced with new ones. before my own opinion, this essay will discuss both the aspects.

The supporters who believe in former opinion argue that, it helps to maintain or increases the value of particular building. Many youngsters are seeking to get knowledge about ancient architecture. If these structures will not exist, it will be vanished too easily from youngers mind. In addition, it can be helpful in cinematography. some producers are intrested in showing these infrastructures in their movies through which people will get to know more and more. This will not only help to keep its dignity but also can earn honor in the future.

Those who supports latter viewpoint have believed that, replacing old buildings can attract many visitors. Nowadays, people are easily get attracted to aesthetic things. If the government spend some amount money to regenrate the old items, it could be proven as good source of income in the future. For example, government has replaced a old museum in ahmedabad are attracting visitors from all over the world and generating significant amount of revenue. Moreover, it can be easy to maintain for employess. New items can be easily cleaned and demands less physical work than older.

All in all it can be commented that, both viewpoints have their own positives and downsides. My preferences would be more inclined towards replacing it with new one as these are easy to manage along with its appearance to the public.

While these vocabulary errors do not entirely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching a higher band, placing it at a Band 5.0.
