IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Community centers in the urban areas need to be upgraded to attract youth towards history, cultural heritage and theatre. Where few individuals belive that townhalls and art museums should be renovated, while others state that they should be modernised eventhough it may be expensive. I belive both the sentiments have their own significance. In the following essay both perspectives will be discussed further with relevant examples.

On the one hand, youngsters and growing up children nowadays are connected more to the electrinic gadgets rather than going out to play or to take part in any art or sport. As a result, they are being disconnected from our culture and folk art, to attract them towards traditions old buildings such as, town halls or art galleries or community centers need to be restored. Although the process of restoration can be expensive, hwever, it leads us to conserve the art forms which was once the face of our culture all arond the world.

On the other hand, an increase in the population has becoming a growing concern for the government that may result in unemployment, lack of space for living and also less resouces to fulfil the demands of food. By replacing the town halls or art museums to modern buildings can be beneficial for the growing number of population. However, it may cause our rich cultural heritage to its extinct which is not affordable. To cope with this issue governments should impose law and regulation regarding population control.

In conclusion, although resoration of townhalls may be expensive, it could be encouraged brcause it will reserve our cultural heritage. However, population control can also be a possible solution for it.
