IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly. Others argue that governments should replace them with new, modern buildings.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In contemporary society, renovation and modernization of old building, has emerged a prominent subject of discussion, the importance of. which was always debatable. While the faction of the society contends that old building should be restored, others vehemently argue that these should be replaced with new modern buildings. From my perspective, the blend of both is reasonable to take action on such places.

This essay will critically analyze both viewpoints alongside relevant examples to provide a well-reasoned conclusion.

On the one hand, there are compelling arguments suggesting the former notion. The primary catalyst behind this school of thought is that old building are the rememberance of our ancesters and they should be kept and restored, no matter how expensive it is. To expance on this the economies should require a speacialized group of people who are already in the deep research of this perspective. For instance, old monuments and buildings remind us of the generations that lived before us, such places shows us that how those people live in that era, what was their tradition and what languages they use. From these we can collect information about past and work can improve our developments by looking back the mistakes that our ancesters made. Consequently it is clear that, why old building needs to be restored, which validates why this perspective commands a significant support.

On the other hand, a strong case can be made for the opposing stance, which I also endorse. A pivotal aspect to consider is that the damages or old buildings should be replaced totally into a modern structures. This is primarily beacuse, most of the old building which are totally damaged and cannot be restored should be demolished as per the goverment istructions and new building like todays modenized society should be made to attract most of the visitors and the pupils living around. For example, the buildings which are too old and have left their original conditions should be replaced by new structures. This action will enable both the area and the society according to the structures of new era. Like shopping malls, parks, sports clubs etc. Therefore, it becomes patetly obvious that new monuments can also provoke the aspect of tourism and businesses, highlighting the profound merits of this perspective.

In conclusion, although the dicourse surroundings, the balanced outcome of both perspectivesis highly multifaceted and can become a real example of future growth of both of nation and society.
