Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people believe that old buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be restored, even though this can be costly to maintain our heritage also it will help to increase economy of our country. Government should spend on restoring or reconstructing old building so that tourist gets attract and come to our country and spend their money here which increase our economy. When tourist will come to see our old heritage they will stay here and spend their money for their food, stay and shopping which will rise our economy. Also when tourist will come to watch our old building it will make our country famous on global level so, old buildings, like town halls and art galleries should be reconstructed and repaired.
On the other hand Some people argue that Government should replace them with new modern buildings because they think that spending on new buildings will make our county more beautiful and will attract more tourists towards our country. But I think in this way we will be able to raise our economy for short period of time. Removing our old building will cause to lose our old heritage. In the era of technology people are more keen to know about our heritage as old is gold so old heritage is in demand which will directly increase economy of our country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, as it is restricted in length and does not meet the minimum requirement of 250 words, falling short by 25 words. While the writer manages to discuss both views regarding whether old buildings should be restored or replaced with modern ones and offers a personal opinion, the ideas presented are limited and heavily repetitive. For instance, the economic benefits of tourism are reiterated multiple times using very similar phrasing ('increase economy of our country', 'rise our economy') without substantial extension or varied supporting evidence. To reach a higher band, the response must meet the minimum word count and develop ideas more fully with distinct, well-elaborated arguments and specific examples rather than circling back to the same economic point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation evident in the division into paragraphs, with an introduction presenting views and a body paragraph discussing the opposing side alongside the writer's opinion. However, there is no clear overall progression; the flow of ideas is hindered by heavy repetition and inadequate or mechanical use of cohesive devices, such as the repetitive use of 'Also' and 'when tourist will come'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical transitions make the progression feel choppy rather than naturally linked. To achieve a higher level of coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to ensure each paragraph presents distinct, logically sequenced points with a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts to express ideas related to heritage and the economy, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'tourist gets attract' instead of 'attract tourists', and 'raise our economy' instead of 'boost the economy'. Furthermore, there is significant lexical repetition, particularly with words like 'heritage', 'economy', 'tourist', and 'building'. To improve this criterion, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision and awareness of collocation, and reduce repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, with frequent reliance on basic sentence patterns. When the writer attempts more complex sentences, they are often faulty, featuring errors in articles, plurals, verb forms, and punctuation. Examples include missing plural forms and articles ('tourist gets attract', 'old building', 'short period of time'), run-on structures without proper punctuation ('global level so, old buildings'), and awkward clause construction. These frequent errors persist throughout the text and can cause some difficulty for the reader. To move to a higher band, the student should incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex grammatical structures and pay closer attention to basic agreement, punctuation, and articles.
