Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely acknowledged that town halls and art galleries have become a matter of considerable debate in recent years. While some people argue that these should be restorted, others believe that government should replace them with new buildings. This essay will discuss both prespectives before arguing that they should be preserved but with changes by government so that are more beneficial in the long run.

On the other hand, those who support that old buildings should be restorted because they have historical beliefs which can make people understand and stay connected with the past as well as the roots of the place. Also, this can be attributed to the fact that they hold emotional aspect for some people as they get deep knowledge about different things which they might not get to see in the coming future. For instance, in India, there various town halls which is source of attraction for visitors and brings business to people living there. It illustrates the fact that people still in todays world are keen on knowing about past incidents and it become a source of interaction among poeople.

On the other hand,it is often argued that demolishment of such places can lead to economic growth since government can build buildings which are of current importance due to high demand such as homes and modern parks. Having considered this viewpoint i firmly believe that government can preserve these monuments to some extent which will prove to be sustainable and practical. It can illustrated as government can work on such building to ensure that enough work if being done to presrve them but also using some piece of land to bring economic prosperity by meeting the needs and areas of concern of people. Thereby, this benefiting to society in a long run.

In conclusion, while both prespectives have their merits and demerits but it is evident that government can bring equality to both opnions if proactive measures are taken to ensure that preservation with changes is an need of the hour to yield positive resukts in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—restoring old buildings versus replacing them with modern structures—and provides a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the arguments regarding historical connections and emotional aspects are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper extension, while the middle ground idea in the third paragraph is introduced quickly without fully exploring the practical implications of combining preservation with economic development. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need to be extended and supported with more precise examples and thorough reasoning rather than generalised statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Notably, the transitional marker 'On the other hand' is used repeatedly for consecutive paragraphs where contrasting ideas are not actually being presented, which disrupts the logical flow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'It can illustrated as government can work on such building'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical progression between sentences needs smoother transitions and more accurate use of cohesive devices to guide the reader effortlessly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'economic prosperity' and 'sustainable and practical'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'restorted' instead of 'restored', 'prespectives' instead of 'perspectives', 'demolishment' instead of 'demolition', and 'opnions' instead of 'opinions'. Furthermore, some collocations and expressions are slightly awkward, such as 'historical beliefs' and 'holding emotional aspect'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score because accuracy and precision in word choice and spelling are inconsistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures to convey ideas about government policy and heritage preservation. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation that occur regularly. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('there various town halls which is source'), missing articles ('as government can build', 'is an need of the hour'), and awkward prepositional or clause patterns ('so that are more beneficial', 'which will prove to be sustainable'). Punctuation slips, such as missing spaces after periods, are also present. These errors rarely impede overall communication, but they prevent the control of grammar from reaching a higher level.
