Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response addresses the prompt only partially and remains severely underdeveloped, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the second paragraph. Furthermore, the length requirement of at least 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 87 words. While the writer attempts to introduce both views regarding the restoration of old buildings versus replacing them with modern ones, the lack of completion and overall brevity severely limit the scope and development of ideas, placing the task achievement at a low level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is some basic organisation attempted through introductory referencing and transitional phrasing like 'First and foremost', but the text lacks clear overall progression due to its fragmentary nature. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt cutoff prevents a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'nowdays' and conjunctions, meaning that information and ideas are not fully arranged in a fully logical sequence across the whole piece.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors and repetition that restrict the range. Examples of spelling and word-choice errors include 'asart galleries', 'nowdays', 'luxry', and 'architect' used instead of 'architecture'. Furthermore, attempts at less common items, such as 'showcase the its origin', contain noticeable errors that cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a limited range of structures, relying mostly on basic sentence patterns with frequent attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. Examples of grammatical inaccuracies include 'construct the buildings with recent styles', 'build modern style that feat the trend', and the broken syntax at the end of the text. Frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage occur throughout the short text, causing some difficulty and strain for the reader.
