Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is considerable debate whether old monuments such as art galleries ought to be perseved and restored, though their perservation is expensive or these should be replaced with modern buildings including residential and parks. Althogh some people are in the favour of constructing new ones, I believe that higher authority must pay attention to save due to heritage values and economic benefits.
On the one side, there are a wide range of reasons why a goup of individual considered these are to be demolish to make new ones. The main reason is that they are not safer for society. These buildings may cause of a thousand of people's dealth. For example, in natural calamities such as earthquake and floods, they buildings have less durablity. So, the protection of human is the first responsibility of federal and government should invest to construct one news and their safety. Moreover,it is ture that the problems of homelessness and sedentary lifestyle have been becoming increasingly day-by-day. Due to these reasons, investiing moneyto construct residential building would ameliorate the scarcity of living areas particularly for impoverished communities.Similarily, building public parks and gardens on such places would be an appropriate decision to encourage people towards healthy lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether old buildings should be restored or replaced with modern alternatives and provides a clear personal position in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the arguments regarding safety concerns, homelessness, and parks are introduced in the second body paragraph, but they remain somewhat under-developed rather than being fully extended with specific evidence. The opposing view regarding the educational and economic value of historic monuments is also presented, though the supporting points about heritage and tourism could be expanded further to achieve a higher level of elaboration. Overall, the main positions are clear, but the depth of support varies across the arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and distinct paragraphs for each viewpoint. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'On the one side', 'Moreover', 'Paradoxically', and 'To conclude'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, expressions like 'these buildings have less durablity. So, the protection...' show awkward linking, and transitional phrases such as 'As in other words' feel slightly unnatural. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the arguments for replacement, the arguments for restoration, and the conclusion, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to enhance the overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'sedentary lifestyle', 'impoverished communities', and 'economic situation'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the essay, including 'perseved' instead of preserved, 'perservation' instead of preservation, 'goup' instead of group, 'durablity' instead of durability, 'investiing' instead of investing, 'Similarily' instead of similarly, 'tresure' instead of treasure, 'broden' instead of broaden, 'manadator' instead of mandatory, and 'unsafeand' instead of unsafe and. These lexical and spelling errors are frequent enough to impede communication at times, placing the lexical control in the intermediate category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause structures with constructions like 'Although some people are in the favour of constructing new ones, I believe that...' and 'Since these buildings provide us a deep insights...'. Nevertheless, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of these errors include 'There is considerable debate whether' (missing preposition), 'the protection of human is the first responsibility' (plural/noun form error), 'they buildings have less durablity' (incorrect pronoun usage), 'governments should invest to construct one news' (unnecessary plural/article error), and 'it is manadator due to its heritage importance' (missing verb or spelling/adjective form issue). These errors occur across various sentence structures and can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
