Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count of 250 words, stopping abruptly after just 88 words. While the writer attempts to introduce both views regarding the restoration versus replacement of old buildings, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack any real extension or supporting examples. Furthermore, your own opinion is not clearly stated or developed in the text. To achieve a higher score, you must fully develop your arguments with relevant explanations and examples, ensure all parts of the prompt are thoroughly discussed, and write at least the minimum number of words.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The essay contains a very limited introduction and only a single partial body paragraph before ending prematurely. Although some basic cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Commencing with most salient reason', the overall progression of ideas is lacking, and the relationship between sentences is frequently disjointed. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with the writing stopping before the arguments can be properly structured or concluded. To improve cohesion, you need to organise your writing into clear, distinct paragraphs with a logical flow of ideas, utilizing a wider and more accurate range of linking words to connect your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that strain the reader's understanding. Phrases like 'made again' instead of 'restored', and spelling mistakes such as 'memmories', demonstrate a limited lexical range and poor word choice. There are also issues with collocations and word forms, such as 'belive thats high authorities'. To move up to a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, incorporating less common lexical items related to the topic of architecture and heritage, and paying closer attention to correct spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical structures are very limited, and errors are frequent enough to cause difficulty and obscure meaning. The writing contains numerous structural and punctuation errors, such as missing articles ('get know about his past things'), incorrect verb forms ('does not matter about its cost'), and poor punctuation around commas and periods ('old buildings , like halls'). Complex sentence structures are either absent or faulty. To improve your grammatical score, you need to demonstrate better control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, prepositions, and accurate punctuation.
