Student answer (Band 6.0)
it is argued that old buildings, such as art galleries and museums, should be restored despite the high cost involved, while others say that modern buildings should be built rather than restoring old ones. Although I believe that modern building are safer and provide protection, old buildings also play an important role to attract visitors.
On the one hand, restoring old biuldings is crucial because they have culture value and tourist attraction spot. individuals always visit a nation where they can explore the history of ancient time and people how they lived. Therefore, art galleries and museums must be restored so that local citizen are connected with their culture and a country can be known by its past history. For example, In India, the government constructs the old building every year because it provides government with a financial support by tourism. However, I think that old buildings connects people with their past worriers, so they should be restored so that new generation can understand the importance of cutlure and history.
On the other hand, building modern kind of buildings keep people safe and secure. When new buildings are constructed with a new technology, primary thing is people's safety so that build can face any kind of natural diseasters, such as flood and earthquake. As a result, it leads to saving people's lives. For example, In Canada, fire alarms are installed in every new building so that if there is any chance of fire, people can alert before it happens. Not only, a big loose can be saved, but also people's lives.
In conclusion, although new buildings bring safety for people with modern technology, the value of historical time and tourism are most important not only for local people, but also to make a well-konkwn country around the world by taking care of past history and buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether to restore old buildings or replace them with modern ones, and it includes a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the arguments for modern buildings and tourism are mentioned, some points remain under-developed or briefly stated. For instance, the claim that old buildings connect people to 'past worriers' is unclear and lacks sufficient explanation or extension. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to fully develop every supporting idea with deeper analysis and more precise real-world examples rather than generalised statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the two opposing views into distinct sections. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear, as seen with ambiguous pronoun usage like 'so that build can face' and repetitive sentence openings. To achieve a higher level, the writer must employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to communicate basic arguments about historical preservation versus modernisation. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'financial support', 'natural diseasters', and 'fire alarms', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'biuldings', 'culture value', 'worriers' instead of 'warriors', 'cutlure', 'loose' instead of 'loss', and 'well-konkwn'. These errors reflect a limited control over lexical features. To improve, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are several errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage throughout the text, such as missing articles ('with a new technology'), incorrect prepositions ('connected with their past'), and awkward subject-verb agreement or clause structures ('so that local citizen are'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning generally remains clear. To move up to a higher band, the writer must increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over punctuation, plurals, and syntactic patterns.
