Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern world, where there is an increasing trend of tall and modern buildings, still the importance of town halls and art galleries can not be neglected. Some people are in favour of restoration of these old traditional buildings, while others argue we should now focus only on constructing modern buildings. This essay will discuss both views and and explain why we should restore our art galleries.
On the one hand, some people supports the idea of constructing modern and tall buildings, as they think this will create an ideal working environment for the employees. Moreover, they believe modern infrastructure helps multinational companies to operate from one place. This group of people actually consider this development a sign of prosperity and modernization. Moreover, they believe that restoring art galleries is no more a trend now.
On the other hand, some people firmly support the restoration of town halls and art galleries, as they think it is essential for preserving a nation's history. It is actually a great way to demonstrate traditions of a nation to the new generation. For example, our provincial government has taken a step towards protecting our cultural identification by investing in restoration of old and traditional art galleries. Whenever, children go to these galleries it helps them broaden their vision and increase their imagination power.
I personally support this idea and believes that this step is very critical in preserving a nation's identity. It helps students to boost up their creativity. It also allows our younger generation to know about our national heroes. Consequently, we should preserve our art galleries and town halls in order to preserve our cultural history.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether old buildings should be restored or replaced by modern ones, and provides a clear personal opinion in favour of restoration. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the paragraph supporting modern buildings relies on general points about an ideal working environment and multinational companies without deep elaboration. Similarly, the reasoning that restoring art galleries is no longer a trend is stated rather than explained. To move to a higher level, all main points need to be fully extended and supported with deeper explanations and concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing that the response is logically organised. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints and the author's opinion. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the repetitive use of transition words like 'Moreover' in consecutive sentences within the second paragraph, and a minor typo in the introduction ('and and'). Referencing is generally clear, but smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the progression to fully meet higher standards.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's ideas about modern infrastructure and cultural history. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'multinational companies,' 'cultural identification,' and 'broaden their vision.' However, there are some word choice and phrasing inaccuracies that prevent a higher score, such as 'increase their imagination power' instead of 'boost their imagination,' and 'no more a trend now' instead of 'outdated.' Spelling is generally accurate, and these minor lexical slips do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'some people supports' instead of 'support', and 'believes' instead of 'believe' in the final paragraph. Additionally, there are minor article omissions, such as 'in restoration of old' instead of 'in the restoration of old'. A higher level would require a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and stricter control over basic grammatical agreements.
