Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is true that population is increasing day by day and it has become a serious concern as it affects ecomony. Some people believe that ancient buildings shoul be renovated such as town halls and art galleries althogh it is expensive, while others think that authorities should relpace them with new design buildings. I believe that renovating old buildings is a great way to keep our history alive.
To begin with, historical buildings has a history behind that where our ancestors lifestyle and their arts can be stored. This remind us our traditions, cultures and history which people can share with future generations. Also, historical buildings has memories of our ancestors, stories and useful knowledge which is useful as educational purpose. People can visit this sites and learn arts, music, how they build those buildings without any technology, so it is an essential thing to renovate the old buildings and maintain it well. Although restoring these buildings is expensive, it is significant advantages such as storing an antique items, vintage cars, and old buildings. Also, it connects people to the history through arts. For example, many youngsters visits Taj mahal in India to see the carving of the building and arts in past time. Therefore, by keeping old buildings is beneficial for next generations.
On the other hand, some people think that governments should make modern design buildings rather than old buildings. New buildings create a great climate with lots of new technology such as access code to enter, elevator specially for handicap people, smart technology, etc. Additionally, with smart technology the expense become less and low maintaince fees specially than renovating old buildings. Upgraded system in new buildings does not only provides great atmosphere but it is also safe as they have security tools for mainataining building. As a result, replacing new modernise buildings have significant advantages, however this cannot connect people with their history and art.
In conclusion, old buildings should restored although it is expensive, while others argue that replacing them with modernise facilities. Although new buildings provides great technology access and low maintainance, old buildings connect people with art and history which is useful for future generation as educational purpose and gain knowledge about their ancestors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for restoring historic buildings, so the response covers the task well. The case for preservation is supported with relevant points about cultural memory, education and the Taj Mahal example. The opposing view is also explained through modern technology, accessibility and lower maintenance costs. This range of relevant ideas, together with a consistent position, is a strength. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the opening claim about population growth and the economy is not connected to the building debate, and the benefits of modern construction could be developed with a clearer example. More precise explanation of how each benefit affects the public would make the discussion more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “Also” and “As a result,” and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, the sentence about “storing an antique items, vintage cars, and old buildings” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point about restoration. References such as “this sites” and “it” can also make it difficult to identify exactly what is being discussed. Use clearer topic sentences and vary linking methods by showing the specific relationship between each point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “historical buildings,” “traditions,” “future generations,” “smart technology,” and “maintenance.” These choices allow you to discuss both cultural value and practical advantages. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “new design buildings,” “great climate,” and “significant advantages” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “ecomony,” “relpace,” and “maintaince.” Aim to learn common word partnerships for this topic and check spelling carefully. More precise alternatives would help you express your ideas clearly without relying repeatedly on general terms such as “great” and “useful.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “although” and a relative clause beginning “which people can share.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main argument is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “historical buildings has” should use a plural verb, “This remind us” needs a singular verb, and “many youngsters visits” needs a plural verb. There are also incomplete or awkward constructions, such as “old buildings should restored” and “replacing them with modernise facilities.” Work on checking subject–verb agreement and ensuring each clause has a complete, correctly formed verb. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make the complex sentences easier to follow.
