Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is believed by some people that government has to preserve historical buildings like historical monuments, art museums ,however other says that government has to build modern buildings with latest facilities. In this essay i will discuss the both the perspectives and i will give my opinion.
There are some reasons why some people says that government authorities has to preserve the historical buildings. The first and foremost reason is that beacause of these old buildings people will come to know about their culture , history and what happened in the past. For example in India, after visiting the old museums individuals come to know about the freedom fighters of india and know about the. value of freedom. what they are enjoying today.Secondly, the materials used to make the old buildings is really hard and good compare to today's material.Hence that is the reason that these buildings are still standing. So, government has to restore these buildings.
However, there are some reasons why some people believe that government has to invest in making new buildings with. modern amenities. To begin with, now the present is really different from the past. Now we have various technologies like air conditioners, refrigerators ,modern cooking techniques like oven , microwave etcetera. So, implementing these techniques is hard in old buildings.Secondly, the cost in making restoration of old buildings is really expensive.
In my opinion, I can say that government has to preserve the old buildings because today's generation will know about the past and their culture.Because today's generation seem history as a boring subject and after visiting these places they easily know about history.
In conclusion i would like to reiterate that preserve old building is a very good way to preserve our culture and history.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both positions and state a clear preference for preserving old buildings, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The cultural and historical value is supported with an example about Indian museums and freedom fighters. However, the case for modern buildings is less fully explained: the list of appliances does not clearly show why these are needed in town halls or galleries, and the point about restoration costs is not developed or compared with the cost of replacement. Your opinion is clear, but it largely repeats the cultural argument rather than weighing the two views. Develop each reason with a direct explanation or a relevant example, and make your comparison more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The first and foremost reason,” “However,” and “In my opinion” helps readers follow the progression. This coherent arrangement meets the expected level, and the paragraphing is appropriate. To make the flow more natural and controlled, reduce formulaic transitions and connect ideas more precisely. For example, “Secondly” introduces the materials point, but the link between durable materials and the need for restoration could be explained more clearly. The conclusion also repeats the opinion without drawing together the contrast between preservation and modernisation. Use clearer links between each claim and its supporting explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “historical buildings,” “culture,” “freedom fighters,” “modern amenities,” and “restoration.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “the cost in making restoration,” “the materials … is really hard and good,” and “today’s generation seem history as a boring subject.” There are also spelling and presentation slips, such as “beacause” and inconsistent capitalisation of “India.” Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating “government has to.” A wider, more accurate range would help you express the comparison and your reasons with greater clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “why,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent: errors occur frequently in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation. For example, “some people says” should be “some people say,” and “government authorities has” should be “government authorities have.” The opening sentence runs several ideas together, while “what they are enjoying today” is separated from the sentence it belongs to. Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise building accurate sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement and ensure each sentence has a complete, clearly punctuated structure.
