Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debat about whether old buildings, such as townhalls and art galleries, should be restrored despite the high cost or replaced with modern structures. While replacing outdated buildings can be more practical and cost-effective, I believe that historically and culturally significant buildings should be preserved and restored whenever possible.

On the one hand, We believe that India is the country of historical heritage, culture and sculpture. I believe that we should restore all the town halls , art galleries even though the cost is too high because the childeren should know what and how was the old buldings and the importance of it. For example, we had a school trip when we were small childrens and the guide would explain us how important history and value of the old buildings.

On the other hand, it is said that government should replace all with the modern and the new buildings because in this fast growing world people need to adapt with the modern things and modern technology and they will replace with old buldings. For instance, children with the new generation (Genz) they are into new, modern and AI things they usually dont like or they dont know how importance it is to redstore the old buldings.

In conculsion, although replacing old buildings with modern structures may be more practivle and less expensive, I believe that important historical buildings should be restored and preserved. This approach can protect cultural heritage while allowing future generation to appreciate their historical value.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for restoring historically and culturally important buildings. The first body paragraph gives a relevant reason—helping children understand history—and supports it with your school-trip example. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the case for modern replacement is mainly linked to people adapting to technology and young people liking modern things, without explaining practical benefits such as safety, accessibility, or more efficient use of space. The claim that all old buildings should be restored also sits uneasily beside your more qualified conclusion about restoring important ones. Develop each side with a clearer reason and make your position consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the overall arrangement easy to follow. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the point about children’s interest in AI does not fully explain why governments should replace old buildings, and “they will replace with old buildings” has an unclear reference. Some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the two arguments. Use clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and make references such as “they” explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “historical heritage,” “cultural,” “modern structures,” and “preserved and restored.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “debat,” “restrored,” “practivle,” and “conculsion.” Phrases such as “modern things” and “how important history and value” are vague or unnatural for this topic. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the benefits of “modern facilities” or the “historical significance” of a building rather than relying on general wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including the concession in “although replacing old buildings … may be more practical and less expensive.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms occur often enough to affect clarity. Examples include “the guide would explain us” (the verb pattern needs an object such as “explain to us”), “children with the new generation … they are,” which creates a faulty sentence structure, and “future generation” where a plural form is needed. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “We” after a comma and the spacing around commas. Practise accurate verb patterns, agreement, and sentence boundaries before adding more complex structures.
