Student answer (Band 5.0)

In m opinion, old buildings, such as ancient town halls, forts, art galleries, should be restored regardless of the expenditures to be incurred upon the restoration.

In support of my opinion, following are the arguments for consideration.

To start with, old buildings are not just buildings nor they should be misconstrued as mere structures, in any manner, whatsoever, that needs to be removed once they attain there shelf life.

These buildings are heritage of any nation, or a country or a place. They are the classic example for looking in to the culture, identity, and history of a country or a nation.

Removing them in toto means that you are erasing your own heritage.

Besides the above, these ancient archelogical sites hold immense importance as they are a place of interest for researchers.

These buildings are also a great source for earning a handsome amount in terms of significant source of foreign exchange. Visitors often show great interest in regards of these ancient architechures and are often very keen on researching the same. When these tourists go back to their native countries and talk about the heritage sites, that one thing only can earn a great deal of good repute for the Country.

In Pakistan, there exsist many such historical sites such as Lahore fort, Badshahi Mosque, and Taxila which already hold the title of UNESCO world heritage in Punjab province. We as a nation take pride in teh fact that we are home to such great historical sites.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear preference for restoring historic buildings and give relevant reasons: preserving national heritage, supporting research, and attracting visitors. The examples of Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque, and Taxila help make the discussion specific. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the response gives almost no account of why governments might replace old buildings, such as cost, safety, accessibility, or modern needs. Your reasons for restoration are also asserted more than developed; for example, the claim that tourism earns foreign exchange would be stronger with a brief explanation or example. The response is one word below the required minimum. Address both sides and extend your supporting points to complete the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable sequence: an opening opinion, several supporting points, and a national example. Paragraph breaks help separate these ideas, and signposts such as “To start with” and “Besides the above” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, there is no balanced progression through both sides of the question, and the short introductory sentence “In support of my opinion, following are the arguments for consideration” does not add much to the development. Some links are repetitive or mechanical, while the relationship between tourism, research, and national reputation could be made clearer. Organise the essay into an introduction, a paragraph explaining the case for replacement, a paragraph supporting restoration, and a conclusion that restates your judgement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-specific vocabulary, including “heritage,” “foreign exchange,” “UNESCO world heritage,” and “historical sites,” which helps communicate your subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “hold immense importance.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “attain there shelf life,” “looking in to the culture,” and “earn a great deal of good repute.” Spelling errors such as “archelogical,” “architechures,” and “exsist” are noticeable and reduce precision. Some expressions are unnecessarily elaborate, which makes the meaning less natural. Aim for accurate, direct phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective without needing to use overly formal wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional construction in “When these tourists go back to their native countries and talk about the heritage sites…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “In m opinion” and “there shelf life,” where the possessive form is incorrect, and “old buildings are not just buildings nor they should be misconstrued,” which has faulty sentence structure. The sentence beginning “These buildings are heritage…” also needs more accurate article and number choices. Punctuation is sometimes awkward, particularly the extra commas in the opening paragraph. Practise building clear complex sentences with accurate clauses, articles, and possessives, then proofread each sentence for its grammatical structure.
