Student answer (Band 6.0)
Old buildings often seen as an important part of history. It is believed by certain individuals that historical buildings should be restored, even though this can be expensive. However, others consider that the government should replace old buildings with new buildings. While both views have compelling arguments, I largely agree with the former view as they can be use for generate income through restoration.
To commence with, historic bulidings such as town halls and art galleries can use for attract visitors. This is beacuse many people perfer to visit historical sites to gain information about history. Indeed, the restoration process of these historical sites requires substatial funds, but the government can charge vistiors to visit these places after restoration. The more people visit these places, the more governments are likely to generate income from them. For instance, a historic art gallery can attract thousand people every year who want to enhance their knowledge about historic paintings.
On the other hand, others argue that old bulidings can be replace with modern infrastructure and use for public services such as townhouses and shelters. This will not only decrease homelessness among people but also can the government money by selling them to citizens. If the government started replacing town halls with modern buildings, they can provide more residential options to people. For example, it is cost-effective for the government replace old structures with new buildings as it mitigates the requirement of purchasing a land for new infrastructure.
In conclusion, although replacing old bulidings with modern-style buildings have some benefits, I strongly believe that restoring them have more advantages. This is mainly beacuse it can increase tourism in the country and contribute to economy. Living spaces for people can be built on the unused offical land.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for restoring historic buildings, explaining that they can attract visitors and generate income. The tourism example of an art gallery also supports your first argument. This meets the task well, but the two views are not developed equally: the case for replacement is less convincing because the shift from town halls to “townhouses and shelters” is not clearly explained, and the claim that this saves money by avoiding land purchases needs more support. Your conclusion introduces building homes on unused official land, an idea not developed earlier. To strengthen the response, explain the practical benefits of modern buildings more fully and connect the final point to your main argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To commence with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the position remains consistent. However, some links between ideas are abrupt or unclear. For example, the move from replacing town halls to providing “townhouses and shelters” needs an explanation, while “This will not only decrease homelessness … but also can the government money” makes the relationship between the proposed action and its benefits difficult to follow. The final sentence about unused official land also feels disconnected. Use clearer referencing and explain how each supporting point follows from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “restoration,” “historical sites,” “public services,” and “cost-effective,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing. However, the range and control are limited by repeated use of general words such as “buildings” and “people,” as well as inaccurate word choices and collocations. Phrases such as “use for attract visitors,” “generate income from them,” and “mitigates the requirement of purchasing a land” are not expressed naturally. Spelling errors, including “bulidings,” “beacuse,” and “perfer,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise phrases for heritage, tourism, and urban development, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concessive opening with “While both views have compelling arguments” and a conditional example beginning “If the government started…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “Old buildings often seen” (missing a finite verb), “can be use for generate income,” and “the government replace old structures.” There are also agreement problems in “replacing old buildings … have some benefits” and “restoring them have more advantages.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, verb patterns, and articles. More accurate control of these structures would make your complex sentences clearer.
