Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many individuals believe in restoring the historical monuments, such as town hall and art galleries, though it can be expensive. While others argue that, instead of preserving or remodelling, it should be replaced with modern architectures. Although, it is essential to build new buildings to accumulate large population, restoring old buildings is equally important as it holds significant cultural value. In my point of view , i firmly believe that both the views are considered as equally true to its value and government should maintain both accordingly. My justification along with views are discuused below.

On the one hand, historical buildings plays very important role in reflecting the past cultural beliefs and identity. Rather than demolishing such valuable architectures, governments should renowate the area of damage by preserving its past traditional artifacts. As a result, it not only encourages communities to visit and explore their old tradition and culture but also, it contributes in economic development. For example, middle-eastern countries like Egypt, they attracted tourism by restoring their old structures like town halls and ancient galleries.

On the other hand, sometimes it is very costly to restore old buildings as some areas of renowation can hardly be replaced or repaired and its not worth it. To elaborate this, water supply facilities cannot be renovated if the capacity or materials are not

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both positions and state that old buildings have cultural value, while modern construction can accommodate a larger population. However, the response only partially fulfils the task: the view in favour of replacing old buildings is briefly raised, but its supporting explanation is incomplete, ending with “if the capacity or materials are not”. Your own position—that governments should maintain both kinds of buildings—is stated, but the basis for deciding when to restore and when to replace is not developed. The example about Egypt is relevant in principle, though the connection to town halls and art galleries is unclear. The response is also 29 words below the required minimum. Develop both arguments fully and finish the second body paragraph and conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and linking phrases such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand.” This helps readers follow the intended discussion. However, the progression is incomplete because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, and there is no concluding paragraph to bring the discussion and your position together. Some connections are also awkward or unclear, such as “Although, it is essential…” and “As a result, it not only… but also…”. The opening repeats the task’s contrast without smoothly connecting it to your opinion. Complete each paragraph, use clear references, and add a concise conclusion that restates your balanced position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “historical monuments,” “cultural value,” “demolishing,” and “economic development.” These choices show some range beyond basic wording. However, inaccurate word choice, spelling, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. For example, “modern architectures” is not a natural way to refer to buildings, “renowate” is misspelled, and “accumulate large population” does not express the intended idea naturally. “Past traditional artifacts” is also unclear in context. Aim for precise, conventional combinations and check spelling before submitting. More accurate use of terms such as “renovate,” “accommodate a growing population,” and “historic features” would make the argument easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Although” and a sentence using “not only…but also.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation recur. For example, “historical buildings plays” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “Although, it is essential…” is an incorrectly punctuated dependent clause. The opening sentence beginning “While others argue…” is a fragment, and the final sentence is unfinished, so its grammatical structure cannot be completed. Capitalisation and spacing are also inconsistent in “i” and “point of view ,”. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement and punctuation, especially when joining contrasting ideas.
