Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals believe in restoring the historical monuments, such as town hall and art galleries, though it can be expensive. While others argue that, instead of preserving or remodelling, it should be replaced with modern architectures. Although, it is essential to build new buildings to accumulate large population, restoring old buildings is equally important as it holds significant cultural value. In my point of view , i firmly believe that both the views are considered as equally true to its value and government should maintain both accordingly. My justification along with views are discuused below.

On the one hand, historical buildings plays very important role in reflecting the past cultural beliefs and identity. Rather than demolishing such valuable architectures, governments should renowate the area of damage by preserving its past traditional artifacts. As a result, it not only encourages communities to visit and explore their old tradition and culture but also, it contributes in economic development. For example, middle-eastern countries like Egypt, they attracted tourism by restoring their old structures like town halls and ancient galleries.

On the other hand, sometimes it is very costly to restore old buildings as some areas of renowation can hardly be replaced or repaired and its not worth it. To elaborate this, water supply facilities or some broken parts of the ancient building cannot be fixed if the criteria or the resources are not compatible enough to restore it. Therefore, modernising some old town halls or galleries which holds less value with a newely facilitated building is far more beneficial for the growing population. Authorities should take wise responsibility in replacing unvaluable old structures and implementing new strategies in way that can help in development of a particular place.

In my opinion, advancement is as neccessary as maintaining the cultural significance. It is governments' main responsibilty in preserving true value of old sructures along with fulfilling the requirement of the community. They should invest in building modern sculpture and renewing and keeping the old buildings even if it is costly.

In my conclusion, supporters of both the views are correct at their positions. In my viewpoint development is very important, but the values and cultural diversity of some historical buiding cannot be compromised.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall position: you support preserving culturally significant buildings while allowing replacement where restoration is impractical. The discussion of heritage and tourism is relevant, and the contrast with repair costs and community needs responds to the task. This meets the core requirements, while some ideas are less fully developed than others. For instance, the Egypt example is broad and does not explain how restored town halls or galleries specifically benefit tourism; the case for new buildings also relies mainly on population growth and repair difficulties. To strengthen the response, explain the criteria governments should use to decide which buildings to preserve, and develop one concrete example for each view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a personal opinion and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the contrast, and the main position is broadly consistent. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening “While others argue…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding sentence, and “My justification along with views are discussed below” adds little to the progression. References such as “it” and “its” in the discussion of buildings can also leave the intended noun unclear. Use transitions that show the relationship between specific ideas, and make references explicit; this would make the otherwise coherent organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural value,” “traditional artifacts,” “economic development” and “modernising,” so the meaning is generally recoverable. There are also some less common choices, but inaccurate word forms, spelling and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the prose awkward: “renowate,” “newely facilitated,” “unvaluable” and “modern sculpture” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Phrases such as “accumulate large population” and “true value” are also imprecise in context. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than more elaborate wording—for example, describe accommodating a growing population, restoring damaged areas, and replacing buildings with modern facilities. Proofreading spelling and word forms would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex forms, including a concession clause (“Although…”) and a conditional-style explanation of repair limitations, which shows some range. The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction and punctuation recur. Examples include “historical buildings plays,” “it holds significant cultural value,” and “town halls or galleries which holds,” where plural subjects require plural verbs. The opening “While others argue…” is a fragment, and “Although” is incorrectly followed by a full independent clause in the introduction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “i” and the space before the comma in “view ,”. Check each sentence for a complete clause and match verbs and pronouns to their subjects.
