Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that antique buildings, such as town halls and art galleries should be renovated, although it might be expensive, while others believe that administrators must demolish them and replace with contemporary structure as these provides more facilities in modern society. However, I strongly believe that saving ancient structures can help future generation to learn about our history and boost economy.
On the one hand, replacing historical buildings with new ones offer individuals enourmous modern facilities such as air-conditioning, automatic washing machines, and dishwashers, which make people life easy and comfortable in this hustle and bustle lifestyle. For instance, over the past few years, the rate of buying modern houses has been increased dramatically all over the world. Therefore, property dealers are earning a large amounts of money.
On the other hand, it becomes significantly important for next generation to learn about their past. Saving old buildings might be costly but younger generation can get the opportunity to learn about their ancestors, traditions, culture, and heritage, which can instill a valuable insights in them. More importantly, old building can boost economy by attracting tourism and increase the job opportunities for locals.
In conclusion, it is clear that although constructing new building can provide better facilities to people, I firmly believe that preserving old one can boost economy for locals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both options and state a clear preference for preserving historic buildings, linking this to learning about the past and tourism. However, the response is under the required length: it contains 210 words, so it is 40 words short of the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt were not counted. This limits how fully you can explain the views. The case for replacement is supported mainly by household facilities and a claim about property sales, which does not directly explain why modern public buildings should replace town halls or galleries. Develop this point with a relevant example, and explain more specifically how restoration benefits tourism or local employment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the contrast between the positions is apparent. This coherent structure is a strength. To move further, make the links between claims and examples more precise. For example, the discussion of modern houses and property dealers does not clearly connect to replacing public buildings, so the paragraph’s reasoning feels less cohesive. The conclusion also repeats the economic benefit without bringing together the historical and practical arguments. Use clearer references and transitions to show how each example supports the paragraph’s main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “renovated,” “contemporary,” “heritage,” “attracting tourism,” and “job opportunities.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “antique buildings” for historic public buildings, “instill a valuable insights,” and “hustle and bustle lifestyle.” There is also a spelling error in “enourmous.” These issues make expression less natural and precise, though the overall meaning remains understandable. Aim for accurate combinations such as “preserve historic buildings,” “provide modern amenities,” and “create employment,” and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession in the opening (“although it might be expensive”) and a relative clause describing younger generations’ opportunity to learn. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “these provides” should have a plural verb, “replacing … offer” needs singular agreement, and “a valuable insights” combines an incorrect article with a plural noun. In “replace with contemporary structure,” the object and article are missing. These patterns show that complex forms are attempted but not consistently controlled. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and noun phrases, and vary sentence structures while keeping each sentence grammatically complete.
