Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals believe that historical buildings, such as town halls and art galleries, should be rennovated. Others argue that restoring these buildings could be expensive, therefore government should replace them with new buildings. In my opinion, historical landmarks are a reflection of the culture and traditions of a country, therefore restoring them is a good idea, even though it could be coslty.
Fisrtly, various historical monuments such as town halls and art galleries are a symbol of our history and culture. They display how people used to live in the past and what problems they have faced . It is necessary for our coming generations to know where we have evolve from. Therefore, these buildings should be prerserved for the upcoming generations. For example, children can learn about their history by visiting various museums and temples. Therefore, we should restore these buildings even if it is expensive to rennovate them.
On the other hand, some people argue that lawmakers should replace historical buildings with modern buildings. They believe as these buildings are no longer used for their original purposes, replacing them with new apartments would help to meet the housing requirements of the growing population. In this way, it will decrease the housing prices in a country and would be beneficial for the whole society.
In my opinion, we should preserve our historical landmarks as it reflects our history. Moreover, various historical places brings tourists in the country which helps the local economy to grow. Therefore, restoring old buildings is beneficial for our economic development.
In conclusion, although restoring old buildings could be a costly affair, it is worth the price as historical landmarks reflect our culture and invite froeign tourists to the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a consistent preference for restoring historic buildings. The cultural value is supported with examples such as children learning through visits to museums and temples, while the opposing view is explained through the need for housing and the possibility of reducing prices. Your tourism and local-economy point adds relevant support to your position. However, the case for replacement is less fully developed than the case for preservation, and the economic claims would benefit from a specific example or clearer explanation. The response therefore covers the task well overall, but not every idea is extended and supported to the same degree. Note: 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted in the authoritative length check.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a further statement of your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression from cultural preservation to the housing argument and then back to your position is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical because “Therefore” is repeated several times, and the final opinion paragraph repeats the central claim without developing it much further. Some references, such as “these buildings,” are understandable but could be made more precise. More varied links and clearer connections between claims and examples would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “historical landmarks,” “housing requirements,” “upcoming generations,” and “economic development.” This gives you enough range to discuss both cultural and practical considerations. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “rennovated,” “coslty,” “prerserved,” and “froeign.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise: “a symbol of our history” would be more natural as “symbols of our history,” and “invite foreign tourists” is less idiomatic than “attract foreign tourists.” The vocabulary is generally understandable, but more accurate spelling and collocation, alongside a wider range of precise expressions, would make the argument more fluent and convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “even though,” “as,” and “which,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement and sentence construction. For example, “various historical places brings tourists” should be “various historical places bring tourists,” while “historical landmarks … it reflects” shifts from plural to singular agreement. In “it will decrease the housing prices … and would be beneficial,” the verb forms are not parallel. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as the space before the full stop in “faced .” Greater control of agreement and parallel structures, while retaining your complex sentences, would improve accuracy.
