Student answer (Band 6.0)
Historical buildings are one of the core components of our culture and history. While many believe in saving these building's from being demolished, others believe in replacing them with more modern and functional buildings. In this essay we will discuss both views and give our opinion.
Old buildings of a town carry the history of the people that resided there before us. Every town has it's own culture which is passed from generation to generation. By replacing them with more modern buildings, we will eventually lose our identity. Old buildings like art gallery and town hall are crafted with unique patterns and design, which are not used in modern times. Alot of buildings are already demolished and historical buildings are getting lesser in quantity. By spendings funds on restoring them, we will be able to preserve the last remaining crafts of our ancestor. For instance, a committee is formed to restore the ruins of Mughal Empire that are in dire need of restoration.
On ther other hand few people believe that government should replace these old buildings with modern one, which are more functional. Older buildings were not build with taking safety into accountability. Modern constructions are safer and more intentionally constructed for human beings. For example, the new buildings in Japan are more earthquake resistant in regards to their older buildings.
To conclude, eventhough modern buildings are a safe option. We cannot change the fact that historical buildings play a key role in culture and history. I believe older buildings should be restored and renovated to their prime glory.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for restoring historic buildings. The preservation argument is supported with relevant points about cultural identity, distinctive design and the Mughal ruins example. The case for replacement is also relevant, particularly the point about safety and the comparison with earthquake-resistant buildings in Japan. However, the two views are not developed equally: the benefits of modern buildings are explained briefly, and the examples could be connected more explicitly to town halls and galleries. To strengthen the response, explain how restoration can be balanced against cost, and develop the practical advantages of replacement before reaching your conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from cultural preservation to safety is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help distinguish the arguments. This gives the response a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical and a few references are unclear. For example, “these buildings” in the introduction could refer more precisely to the town halls and galleries in the prompt, while “them” in the preservation paragraph has several possible antecedents. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports to make the progression more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “historical buildings,” “preserve,” “identity,” “functional,” and “earthquake resistant.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more specific language such as “unique patterns and design” show an effort to describe architectural value. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “last remaining crafts” does not clearly express the intended idea, and “constructed for human beings” sounds unnatural in this context. There are also spelling and form errors, including “Alot” and “spendings.” Aim for more precise phrases such as “architectural heritage” and “structural safety,” and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including the contrast in “While many believe…” and the conditional idea “By replacing them… we will eventually lose our identity.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include the possessive forms “building’s” and “it’s,” the agreement error “art gallery … are crafted,” and “Older buildings were not build.” The sentence “By spendings funds…” also has an incorrect verb form, while “even though modern buildings are a safe option” is punctuated as a sentence fragment in the conclusion. Review apostrophes, subject–verb agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries; these corrections would make your varied structures more consistently accurate.
